The School of Arts & Media has a diverse and exciting range of courses, from undergraduate degrees in Comedy Practice and Fashion Design to postgraduate degrees in Creative Technology and Wildlife Documentary. The School has a long established tradition of providing high quality arts and media courses, and is well respected for placing graduates in the market who are able to understand the dynamic nature of the creative sector.
As a practice-driven school, we are about creative content. We create stories. We create expressions. These expressions and stories are produced in many different forms, whether it’s performance, music composition, visual art, computer and video games, illustration, interior architecture, animation or journalism. This is one of our unique strengths - the breadth and depth of our courses that stretch across all of these forms and more.
We have recently undertaken a comprehensive curriculum review. This has enhanced the practice-based elements of our courses and sharpened the focus on employability by encouraging students to engage in live briefs and projects with industry partners. Our real-world focus is valued by employers, and the School has been pivotal in developing employer networks and delivering industry events which inform next generation roles, with major players from the creative sector also contributing to our programmes as guest speakers.
Unrivalled learning experience
The School continues to build on the strong links with the creative economy and offers distinctive provision with a continuing commitment to offering high quality specialist and interdisciplinary programmes, closely informed by research and which are increasingly international in nature.
Many of our courses participate in the Erasmus European Student Mobility initiative, where we have partners in France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Poland and the Netherlands. Our own students are encouraged to spend at least one, if not both, semesters of their second-year of study on exchange and in return we have a vibrant incoming cohort looking to study in Manchester as part of the biggest student community in Europe. Encouraging our students to be bold in exploration develops their capacity to be bold in their creative practice, and see their work in an international context.
Staff at the School are experienced and enthusiastic, most with a background in professional creative practice, with a reputation for producing students who are highly creative, energetic and employable. We have graduates working for some of the most prestigious names across the creative sector including the BBC, Vogue and Saatchi & Saatchi, as well as famous alumni in their own right such as Peter Kay, Christopher Eccleston, Everything Everything and Jason Manford.
If you are serious about arts and media, Salford is the school for you. Wherever you want your career to take you, we have the expertise, the facilities and the industry contacts to help you get there.
