Seamus Simpson is Professor of Media Policy in the School of Arts and Media at the University of Salford. His research interests lie in European and global communications media policy. Specific focus has been on a range of Internet, telecommunication, and digital media convergence governance issues. Seamus's research has been funded by the ESRC and the European Commission. He was Principal Investigator on the ESRC-funded European Regulation of Internet Commerce project and is a member of the ESRC's Peer Review College. He was part of the PricewaterhouseCoopers team which undertook the first EU-funded evaluation of the pan-European electronic communications regulator, BEREC, in 2012. Seamus was elected Vice-Chair of the Communication Law and Policy Division of the International Communication Association in 2011. He became division Chair in 2014 and is a member of the Board of Directors of the ICA. In 2015, Seamus joined the Oxford Research Encyclopedia: Communication as a Senior Editor (Oxford University Press).
Seamus co-organised the ICA Communication Law and Policy Division's contribution to the ICA general conferences in London (2013) and Seattle (2014) and was organizer of the 2013 workshop of the European Communication Research and Education Association Communication Law and Policy Section which took place at MediaCityUK. He was also Content Director of the 2013 Salford Media Festival, Programme Chair of the 2014 Challenging Media Landscapes conference and Content Director of the 2014 Nations and Regions Media Conference.
