Biography
I started to work in Salford as a part-time project assistant in 2004 for an EU-funded “Asia Link” program aiming at developing collaborative curricula in the area of Design Management, while I was writing up my PhD funded by the prestigious ORS scholarship (overseas researcher scheme). After the completion of PhD, I worked as a full-time researcher for an AHRC “Design 2020” project exploring the future of the UK design industry and then the British Council's “Prime Minister's Initiative for International Education” (PMI2). I became full member of staff in 2009 when I was appointed Programme Leader for MSc. Design Management.
I am currently subject leader of Design Management and PGR coordinator for School of Art and Design. Before commencing my academic career, I had worked as an in-house product designer, and for a number of design consultancies in China.
Teaching
I teach Design Management at both Postgraduate and Undergraduate levels. The modules I coordinated include ‘Brand and Design Strategy’, ‘Design Industry and Professional Practice’ and ‘Design Project Management’.
I currently coordinate ‘Research Methods and Practice’ delivered to all postgraduates. I have also successfully supervised a range of PG dissertations.
Research Interests
My research interests include design management and policy, design education, and brand strategy. I have published a number of refereed journal papers which are of 3* quality (international excellent) for REF and wrote for a range of important journals and magazines in this field, including the Design Journal and Design Management Review. My research activity is also well aligned with my teaching and learning practice, and informs the curriculum and its delivery.
