Biography

Upon graduating from Northumbria University in BA (Hons) advertising & graphic design and following a period in industry employed as an art director for several London agencies including Lowe Howard-Spink/Horseman Cooke, The Unknown Partnership and D4, working on accounts for Boots, Marks & Spencer, James Capel, The Financial Times, Britvic, JPS, Virgin, City Beat, Global Village and XL Recordings. After completing the MA Communication Design Programme at Manchester Metropolitan University, Christopher worked as a lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University before accepting a full time post at The University of Salford.

In 1998 He was appointed chairman of the Chartered Society of Designers. This role allowed him to co-ordinate the ‘voicebox’ national lecture series, delivered across Glasgow School of Art, The London Institute and The University of Salford. In 2005 he wrote the BA (Hons) Advertising Design programme before accepting the role of programme leader in 2006. He is External Examiner at The University of Chester and Stockport College and External Advisor for graphic design CPD modules at LJMU.

Specialties

Art direction, creative thinking, campaign strategy, typographic communication, copywriting, HE curriculum design, development and delivery. Christopher's work has been exhibited at The Golden Gallery: Soho Square, The Righton Gallery: MMU, Dry Bar: Manchester, Fusion - Visionfest, LJMU. He has been featured in Computer Arts Magazine The Guardian.

Teaching

Christopher’s extensive teaching experience has allowed him to develop a deeper understanding and clear overview of the student learning experience required across all levels of undergraduate and post graduate study. His academic interests focus on Art Direction and Copywriting. He encourages a strong focus on the development of creative thinking and conceptual development. His understanding of the advertising industry and its direction is informed by wide ranging agency links, ongoing dialogue with under graduate, post graduate students and regular contact with alumni, attendance at conferences and study of associated journals, books and online media.

Research Interests

The working title for his current PhD proposal is ‘Behavioral economics in relation to out of home advertising’.
