Biography
I joined the University of Salford in 2006 as a Senior Lecturer / Programme Leader of Fashion, having previously been teaching Full Time at the Arts University College Bournemouth since 2000. Prior to this I had taught students part-time on Masters, BA Hons and BTEC courses. Before education I worked in the fashion industry both Nationally and Internationally including working for companies in London, Barcelona and Taipei Taiwan. For my Masters I specialised in fashion design and creative pattern cutting and further experiences also included working with reputable designers, internships on the famous Saville Row and for a longer period working as designer/pattern cutter in Durban South Africa.
My current role involves the management and leadership of the fashion department including in design and image-making styling. I am responsible for the development and planning of our curriculum/learning area with emphasis on leading a positive working environment for staff and students where learning is transmitted consistently, and is distinctive of the highest quality undergraduate offer.
Teaching
As pathway leader in the area of design, I teach students in their 2nd and final year of study. Formal scheduled teaching duties include delivering lectures, Seminars, tutorials and demonstrations including assessment throughout the academic years. Areas of specialism are conceptual development of design ideas /processes, creative pattern cutting/draping & student portfolio development. Recently our department has forged links with external partners internationally and working across schools within the University i.e. Computer Science and Engineering dept. on utilising technology in order to develop innovative learning experiences for our fashion students. In this area I have been a key member in leading the projects in order to establish exciting and creative ways to learn and share practice.
I love teaching and being directly involved in the nurturing, development and facilitation of student learning experience, where the learners are informed by their personal belief and desire to innovate and offer directional, contemporary work.
