Biography

I have been both a design & development engineer working for large national corps until 1989, when I undertook an MA in Industrial Design at Central St Martins. Subsequently undertook a PhD in Glasgow, & joined Salford in 1994.

Starting out on the then BSc Product Design & development programme, I have been variously programme leader on MSc Industrial Design, Associate Head Enterprise within Art & design, & more recently Associate Dean Enterprise for CASS.

I have significant experience of both R&D & design practice, having been both a partner in a design consultancy & a regional director for British Design Innovation. I have launched a number of spin-out companies & have led a number of large scale research & development  projects for the ERDF, EPSRC & AHRC, the latter including an investigation into the Future of the UK Design Industry.
