Todd joined MA Journalism in September 2011. After work placements at Messenger Newspapers, The Bolton News, The Sun, magazines, M.E.N. Media, Cavendish Press, News Associates and the Professional Footballers’ Association, he was offered a trainee reporter role with the Manchester Evening News and its weekly newspaper series.

“Although the taught element of the course was fantastic – and it genuinely was – nothing prepared me more for the real world of reporting than live news days at the MediaCity campus. I'd got the bug and I was determined to land a job as soon as I could. In December 2012, I was lucky enough to do just that.

What really boosted my chances of landing my dream job was my involvement with the Salford Advertiser and its newly launched Quays News community page. Getting bylines every week really helped me understand which stories make the publication and honed my sub-editing skills and writing style. A few weeks later, whilst on a placement at M.E.N. Media with the Macclesfield Express, I was asked to bring my CV in the next day. Two weeks on, I was the company's newest trainee reporter and am now with my home town newspaper, the Stockport Express – complete with my own patch and growing list of contacts.”
