To perform Indian Classical music requires a particularly thorough understanding of the musical language and phrases for each raga that can be drawn from within improvisations. This hands-on session, delivered by graduate and renowned musician Sam Lewis, will show how some of these Riyaz techniques can be applied to western instruments and modified for use within western performance styles. Riyaz is the Urdu word for music practice and as will be demonstrated, practice is essential in developing the specific techniques required in performing this style of music.
