Festival of International Music and Dance
The University of Salford is pleased to announce its 4th Festival of International Music and Dance. The festival serves as the culmination of community engagement; celebrating diversity and stimulating debate on the relationship between music, identity and community.
This year the project is will focus on Brazilian music and dance styles, including Capoeira (Music & Movement), samba (Music & Dance), Maculele (Music and dance) and Maracatu (Music).
Thursday 19th March - (7pm - 10pm) Capoeira workshop and Roda.
Friday 20th March - Peel Hall (12.30pm – 2.00pm) ‘Capoeira Workshop’ for Salford University Music and Dance students led by Mestre Valdir da Silva (Capoeira Conviver, Manchester/Santos, Brazil) and Mestre Maria Pandeira (Capoeira Senzala, Bremen).
Saturday 21st March and Sunday 22nd March - (Adelphi Building) A variety of workshops held throughout each day. Part of this will be dedicated to an academic seminar where the discussion of these art forms (including film) will be reviewed.
Entry is open to the public and can be accessed through a booking system below. Capoeira, Samba and Maracatu groups who want to take part must please contact Jostine Loubser to ensure that your bookings are secure.
