Fashion graduates showcase work at Vogue event
It was a night to remember for Salford’s fashion graduates when they took part in a sparkling event on 10 October hosted by the illustrious Vogue magazine.
This year, for the first time, Vogue Fashion’s Night Out took place in Manchester, providing the University’s would-be designers and fashionistas with the chance to make a bold statement of their own.
Fashion icons and A-list celebrity designers from across the UK flocked to the internationally-renowned shopping festival, which featured a range of merchandise from some of the biggest fashion retailers in the country. Among them was a bespoke stall showcasing custom pieces created by third-year Fashion Design students and collections of prints and Zine packs produced by our Fashion Image Making and Styling alumni.
Third-year students Rebecca Shaw and Ellen Wilson said being involved in the event was "great practice" for working in the industry.
Rebecca said: “I particularly love how this project has given us the opportunity to work on something that is actually being sold to the public. It just puts everything into perspective when you’re creating something to be bought and enjoyed by another individual.”
As well as providing our current students with the opportunity to sell their creations, the event also included a catwalk show.
Members of our alumni saw their designs take centre stage on the catwalk, when audiences were wowed by some of the best garments and collections from our 2013 graduates.
Speaking on their involvement in Manchester’s most glamorous fashion affair, Fashion lecturer Paul Marsden said: "We were thrilled to be invited to Vogue Fashion’s Night Out and to have the opportunity to showcase a selection of the very best work from both design and image making and styling students.
“The evening was a great success and we hope Vogue makes its way back to Manchester soon.”
