The Centre provides a wide ranging curriculum in theoretical and applied linguistics at undergraduate and MA levels as well as providing supervision to research students.
We are committed to providing a full and interesting curriculum in our undergraduate and postgraduate courses and a stimulating learning environment for our students.
We are active researchers, and in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), the panel assessed the linguistics submission as having 75% of its research activity of 'international' quality with 35% of our submissions being classed as 'internationally excellent' or 'world class'.
We provide a stimulating environment for research in a wide range of subjects across the field, including the syntax-semantics interface, morphology, phonology, semantics, pragmatics, psycholinguistics, first language acquisition, descriptive linguistics (particularly English, French and Arabic), language pedagogy and lexicography.
In addition to promoting research in linguistics, we also encourage synergies between linguistics and related disciplines in other Schools in the University. We particularly encourage interdisciplinary research in linguistics and translation and interpreting studies and in linguistics and language pedagogy.
