Why support Salford
Our University is a place that exists to make a difference in the world. Our graduates go on to make an unbelievable impact in all walks of life from nursing to construction, music and law. At our heart is our talented, diverse and driven student community. We believe passionately in ensuring the brightest students have the opportunity to fulfil their potential regardless of their means or background.
You can support your University by making a gift to one of our priority areas:
The Salford Advantage Scholarship
In a University such as ours, it is imperative that we maintain a high level of support to all of our students. This is particularly true in the changing circumstances we are facing as a nation and as universities.
Widening participation involves additional support and therefore higher costs in addition to maintaining and improving excellence in teaching, learning and research. I am committed to maintaining our position as the University of choice to students from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds but this will only be possible with financial support.
Put simply, universities change lives. We must not allow this to become a more exclusive undertaking.
In 2010/11, just under 40 per cent of our new students came from "non-graduate" households (as defined by the Office for National Statistics). This will usually mean that they are the first in their immediate family to attend a university. Of our new students, 21.6 per cent live in areas where a low proportion of their contemporaries continue into higher education.
We cannot do this alone and need your help to continue to open up a Salford education, and all that goes with it, to as many capable young people as possible.
The Salford Gateway
The Salford Gateway will be the new home for Arts at the University of Salford. The Salford Gateway will be a world-class new Arts building that will connect students, employers and the wider community to produce outstanding professional practitioners, artists and performers.
The Salford Gateway will house the teaching and research of the most comprehensive range of arts-based subjects in North of England: music, dance, theatre and circus performance, product design, fashion, fine art, photography and digital architecture. It will also be a home for community arts organisations, schools, colleges and professional artists who want to enjoy our outstanding new facilities. This beautiful new building will transform arts teaching and learning.
