Jo joined University of Salford in April 2017 as Pro-Vice-Chancellor International and Regional Partnerships. Jo’s role at Salford has executive responsibility for the University’s global presence and translating the innovative Industry Collaboration Zones activity internationally. She also has responsibility for the University’s regional engagement and involvement in initiatives such as the devolution agenda in Manchester and engagement with local business and industry. Working with colleagues across the University, this role contributes to the University’s strategic aim to be recognised as a leader in industry-relevant higher education.
A graduate of Durham and Newcastle universities, Jo started her career in news production in London for an Arabic language TV station followed by PR work. Moving into the relatively new field of international higher education at the time, she now has over 20 years’ experience working internationally for the universities of Durham, Northumbria and Sheffield. Roles have included market analysis and recruitment, developing transnational education partnerships, oversight of large scale higher education initiatives with private and state providers in the UK and overseas, and working with government ministries. She has been a regular member of BEIS, British Council, UCAS and UUK committees and working groups.
