Andrew joined the University in 2013, as Head of the Vice Chancellor’s Office. In 2018 he took on the role of Associate Director for External Relations and leads the Alumni and Fundraising, Art & Culture, Events and Conference and Public Affairs Team. He is also an advisor to the Vice-Chancellor on a range of policy and external affairs, supports the Executive and senior leadership in anticipating and responding to significant strategic external environment changes and delivers corporate support for international visits, major events and initiatives.
As part of his role Andrew has led on the development of a Public Affairs Strategy for the University’s role in the devolved Greater Manchester and Northern Powerhouse and also leads on continuing engagement with other areas of policy such as the Industrial Strategy. He oversees a number of programmes of external stakeholder engagement regionally, nationally and internationally and in building a worldwide network of engaged alumni and supporters.
Andrew's career started in private industry, where he held a number of management roles in operations, finance and external affairs and policy. He is an alumnus of the University of Salford having studied Military History, and also served two terms as Salford's Students' Union President and was a Non Executive Director of NUS Services Ltd.
Andrew lives on the West Pennine moors with his wife; they are keen dog walkers, keep poultry and enjoy growing their own vegetables. Andrew is also an elected County Councilor in Lancashire and is very active in politics.
