Professor Allan Walker has led the School of Arts and Media since its establishment in 2012, enhancing its reputation as a centre of excellence for creative education closely connected to the creative industries and digital media at MediaCityUK.
Committed to the principle of urban regeneration through cultural renewal, Allan is developing plans for a new cultural campus for the University. Previously, as Deputy Director of The Glasgow School of Art (2004-11) and Vice Principal Academic at Wimbledon College of Art (2002-04), he was responsible for four successful QAA institutional reviews and RAE2008.
Allan is experienced in teaching, research and leadership of institutional change, transformational processes in which he has sought to develop interdisciplinary learning communities and improve students’ experience of higher education. He has contributed to national policy designing the second round of ELIR and the Scottish Enhancement Themes, as specialist advisor to British Council Scotland and as an AHRC Reviewer and Strategic Panellist.
Educated at Oxford and Edinburgh Universities, Allan qualified as a Landscape Architect specialising in moorland conservation. As a practising artist and researcher with an international practice and work in national collections, he was awarded a professorship from University of Glasgow in 2004 and University of Salford in 2011.
