University exhibits ‘puzzling’ art at MediaCityUK
Puzzle, which shows a group of people trying to solve a problem and their reactions as the task becomes more difficult, will be the first art exhibition to use the 7m x 3m ultra-high resolution Christie microtiles video wall in the ‘Egg’ space on the ground floor of the University’s MediaCityUK facility.
Park works with video and collage to playfully manipulate familiar everyday situations and, with Puzzle, draws parallels between the frenetic activity of those taking part in the puzzles in his installation and society as a whole.
He said: “The form of a puzzle captures sociality and human relationships, the small and large systems that exist and possible movements within them. The series of experiments confines people in the form of a puzzle and gives them a limited amount of freedom to move according to the rule.”
Junebum Park has exhibited extensively in Korea and internationally, with recent exhibitions at New York’s Museum of Arts and Design and the Contemporary Urban Centre (Liverpool Biennial), and is currently showing his work at Nam Jun Paik Art Centre as part of the TV Commune exhibition.
Puzzle is part of Asia Triennial Manchester 2011 and shows at the University of Salford, MediaCityUK, M50 2HE, from Saturday 19 November to Monday 5 December. Opening times are 9am-5pm Monday-Friday and 12pm-4pm Saturdays.
