Just a week ahead of the opening of the new University of Salford facility at MediaCityUK, a new partnership has been announced with global, creative software company Adobe.

The partnership will see Adobe sponsoring a state-of-the-art VFX studio at the University's new teaching and research facility and providing talented students with the chance of a lifetime on highly coveted work placements with Adobe’s video team.

Jon Corner, Director of MediaCityUK, for the University of Salford, said: "Joining forces with Adobe will create huge benefits for our students and it shows how the University is now seen by innovative, world leading businesses and organisations. Adobe recognises what we are aiming to achieve at MediaCityUK and the quality of graduates we will be producing.

"As a result of this fantastic new partnership, students will get to work on leading software developments, as well as having the opportunity to spend some time working with Adobe on live projects and briefs.

"Adobe products are transforming how cinematic content is produced - for example, the recent Gareth Edwards hit film Monsters, was created with Adobe Creative Suite - now our students at Salford will also get the chance to combine their creativity with technology in the best digital campus in the UK."

The studio will house Adobe Creative Suite CS5.5 Production Premium as a platform for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and will be integral to new programme development at MediaCityUK.

Adobe will also be using the University's new building to engage in R&D, which will see students and academics invited to work with Adobe on applied research projects. The type of R&D the centre will work on include projects on fine tuning post-production workflows across disciplines, including television, film, commercials and animation.

Jim Guerard, vice president and general manager for professional video and audio at Adobe, said: “The University of Salford is really in tune with the industry and its campus at MediaCityUK make it a great R&D partner across video and audio. At a time when Adobe is taking the broadcast industry by storm, the skills students will acquire will provide a springboard into the industry”.
