Buzz at MediaCityUK for Creative Hive event
Part of the University’s Festival of Media, Music & Performance 2012, Creative Hive Live will feature the best artistic talent from across the North West, including students from Salford and other universities, and will consist of interactive displays, storytelling, performances, installations and live events.
Held at the University’s state-of-the-art ‘Egg’ space and Digital Performance Lab in its MediaCityUK building, the event will feature speed networking sessions, giving students and graduates the chance to meet potential employers and display and discuss their work using interactive touch tables, while showing creative industry representatives some of the best emerging talent in the region.
Installations and performances throughout the afternoon and evening will include an interactive image display where viewers can use gestures to discover the stories behind pictures; a cross-disciplinary work capturing live data and presenting it as digital pop art with flash fiction to music; a live show where the audience is invited to be a guest at a grotesque banquet which celebrates the excesses and indulgences of a party; a range of musical presentations and more.
In the Egg Suite, creative professionals and academics will share their experiences and opinions on how digital technology has influenced their work and the creative media industry as a whole.
Alex Fenton, who runs University web development company www.EDinteractive.co.uk and is the founder of Creative Hive, said: “The aim of Creative Hive is to provide real-world opportunities and connections between people in education and industry. It gives people the chance to showcase their work digitally at www.creativehive.org and in person at events like Creative Hive Live.”
Event curator and sculptor Angela Tait said: “After the success of our previous events, we are excited about the possibilities that MediaCityUK brings. One of the main aims of Creative Hive is to promote cross-disciplinary co-operation within the creative industries and so we are particularly looking forward to welcoming collaborative enterprises in this fabulous digital showcase.”
Creative Hive Live takes place at the University of Salford, MediaCityUK, from 2pm-9pm on Tuesday 29 May. Anyone wishing to register for the event or find out more should visit www.creativehive.org/live.
