Believe in free travel to spectacular digital showcase
Thanks to Salford City Council, Metrolink, Transport for Greater Manchester and CityCo, visitors will be able to travel to the University’s Believe event, a stunning showcase of digital art and technology at MediaCityUK, free of charge from Manchester and Salford city centres, and from Eccles.
Believe will be a celebration of the latest in digital entertainment and creativity brought to life at the University’s new MediaCityUK site. Centrepiece of the event will be Lowry to Life, an ambitious digital re-imagining of LS Lowry’s Piccadilly Gardens painting capturing the movements of members of the public and transferring them to Lowry figures shown on a giant projection of the artwork at MediaCityUK.
At the University’s MediaCityUK TV studios guests can virtually star in an adventure with BBC’s Dinosaur Planet and then download the clip to keep forever, thanks to green screen wizardry, while they can also have a go at some fun digital video games on iPad-like touchscreen tables in the building’s ground floor exhibition space.
A spectacular 3D film of digital dancers, courtesy of renowned Austrian art technology group Ars Electronica, will be sure to amaze viewers, the futuristic Digital Performance Lab will play host to a chilling Arctic 3D sound experience and a programme of workshops on animation, special effects, film production and writing will also run throughout the day.
Also supported by BBC Radio Manchester, Believe is free of charge and is open from 10.30am-5.30pm on Saturday 12 November at the University of Salford, MediaCityUK, Salford, M50 2HE.
Free return travel will be available on Metrolink from Piccadilly Gardens and Eccles to the event at MediaCityUK. The Salford QuaysLink bus service from Salford Crescent rail station to MediaCityUK via Salford Shopping City will also be free of charge for Believe visitors.
